Rap group Drop City Yacht Club to open Block Party

West Coast-based hip-hop group Drop City Yacht Club will open for Ke$ha and Trey Songz at Block Party this Friday.

Formerly known as The Freshmen, Drop City Yacht Club is made up of A Wolf, Kristo and THX. The trio released a lyric video to its single, “Crickets,” in February, a song that has taken over the radio and been downloaded about 13,000 times on iTunes after three weeks, Billboard reported March 30.

Drop City Yacht Club has gradually gained popularity since its debut with thousands of hits on YouTube and appearances on tours with rappers like Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, Wiz Khalifa and 2 Chainz.

The rap trio emulates a fun, self-deprecating style of humor in its lyrics, according to a University Union news release.

Members of the San Francisco group say they write and produce their own work, according to the release. The group’s full-length album is due out later this year, according to the release.

Doors for Block Party will open at 6:30 p.m. in the Carrier Dome. Tickets are $15 for Syracuse University and State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry students. General public tickets are $40.
