The All-Atlantic Coast Conference men’s lacrosse team was announced Wednesday afternoon, with Dylan Donahue, Nick Mariano, Sergio Salcido and Brandon Mullins representing Syracuse (8-4, 2-2 ACC) on the 18-man list.
Donahue is a second-time qualifier for the all-conference team, as the senior attack leads the conference with 2.25 assists per game. His 21 goals are tied for second most on the Orange, and he leads the unit with 48 points.
Several of Donahue’s 27 assists have been dished to Mariano, who’s flourished in his first season with SU. He’s the team’s leading goal scorer with 29 tallies, where as last year on Massachusetts he led the team with only 22 scores.
The only first-time starter to crack the list for Syracuse is Salcido, who’s success this season has openly surprised head coach John Desko. The 5-foot-7 midfielder has scored 21 times, and has three games this season with five or more points. He entered this season with five career points.
Mullins is the only returner to the All-ACC team with Donahue, and the fifth-year defender has once again anchored the Orange’s counterattack. His 22 caused turnovers are at least double anyone else on the team, and has helped SU allow the second-fewest goals per game in the ACC.
One notable omission is Syracuse faceoff specialist Ben Williams, who leads the conference with a 64.2 percent clip at the X in 12 games this season. The nod was given to North Carolina’s Stephen Kelly, who’s won an ACC-best 184 faceoffs this season.
The duo will clash on Friday at 6 p.m. when SU takes on UNC in the semifinals of the ACC tournament in Kennesaw, Georgia.
