Woman in critical condition after shooting on Westcott Street

An 18-year-old woman is in critical condition after being shot Sunday night on the 200 block of Westcott Street, according to the Syracuse Police Department.
Officers responded to 911 calls about a shooting around 11 p.m., SPD Sgt. Matthew Malinowski said in a press release. Victor Bahati, 21, was arrested as a suspect in the shooting, Malinowski said. Bahati is not a student or employee of Syracuse University, according to the school’s current directory. SPD did not release the victim’s name.
The residence where the shooting occurred, 206 Westcott Street, is located about a mile from the SU campus. Bahati was charged with assault in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree. Detectives recovered a handgun, Malinowski said.
