Syracuse’s Miyuka Kimoto and Viktoriya Kanapatskaya competed in the NCAA Doubles Championship bracket Tuesday, though the duo fell to Texas A&M’s Mia Kupres and Mary Stoiana in the round of 32. Kimoto also competed in the national singles bracket and advanced to the round of 32, but also fell in the second round.

SU hasn’t had a player compete in the second round of the NCAA Singles Championship bracket since Gabriela Knutson in 2018. But Kimoto broke the streak Monday morning, advancing to the second round of the NCAA Singles Championship at Greenwood Tennis Center.

Kimoto’s NCAA Championship campaign began against Pepperdine’s Savannah Broadus in the round of 64. Despite being down four games in the first set, Kimoto climbed back to take it 7-5. She secured the second 6-4 and moved on to the round of 32 Tuesday. She faced Luciana Perry of Ohio State and fell 1-6, 2-6.

Kimoto paired up with Kanapatskaya in the doubles bracket and faced No. 7 ranked duo Kupres and Stoiana of Texas A&M in the round of 32. The Syracuse duo won the first set 6-4, yet dropped the second 1-6. Kupres and Stoiana pulled away in the third set tiebreak, winning 10-4 and ending Kimoto and Kanapatskaya’s tournament run.
